Many roads from all over the world lead to the top of the Emirates in Ras Al Khaimah. Welcoming its very first class at its recent Orientation program, the American University of Ras Al Khaimah found that among its new students twenty-three nations and, of course, the United Arab Emirates are represented.
Some students from far away have UAE connections, like one young man from the state of Florida in the USA who came to visit RAK where his family has a business and decided that AURAK offered the perfect place for him to study.
A student from Russia was literally flown to RAK—his father is a pilot for RAK airlines.
Three brothers from Nigeria decided to join forces and make their imprint on the American University by coming together from their homeland to Ras Al Khaimah. The new students seem united in their appreciation of what Ras Al Khaimah and the American University of RAK have to offer. As one young woman from Egypt commented, “Ras Al Khaimah is the most beautiful, calm, and secure place.”
This diversity within the student body is mirrored in the faculty and staff who also come together from many different nations. What the faculty members have in common, however, is that virtually all were educated in the United States and hold an advanced degree from a major American University. As its name suggests, the university itself is based on the American model of higher education.
Faculty members are trained in and are committed to the American style of teaching and learning in which professional programs are built on a broad base of general education, students are expected to be active participants in their own learning, and theory is related to practice. AURAK emphasizes student development through sports, clubs, and other activities, and offers considerable support to help students achieve their goals through a Student Success Center and the Counseling and Career Services Center. AURAK helps to bring the world to Ras Al Khaimah and RAK to the world.
