Student Choice Awards Celebrate UAE’s Top Universities

NAJAH Abu Dhabi hosts first ever award series decided by the students .

Abu Dhabi, 26 October, 2016: The executive team of NAJAH Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s leading Higher Education event which is now in its 10th year, presented awards to five UAE based universities yesterday (25 October) who were selected as best in class, across a number of different categories, by students living in the Emirates.

Taking place for the first time this year, the Student Choice Awards has been created by the organisers of NAJAH to celebrate the achievements of universities over the past year. A survey that was sent out to current students, as well as alumni, by universities across the country encouraged their pupils to vote for them across five specific categories; Outstanding Support for students; Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative; Extracurricular Activities – Clubs & Societies; Campus Facilities and University of the Year.

Speaking on the side-lines of the exhibition, Carol A. Maalouf, Director of Admissions at the American University in Dubai, which won both University of the Year and Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative, said; “We received this news with great enthusiasm! Getting the University of the Year award, and one which was voted by our own students and alumni, is to say the least, incredibly gratifying. AUD's accreditations, the degree programs we offer, the maintenance of high academic standards, an emphasis on innovative and critical thinking, the cultivation of curiosity and a spirit of inquiry; the identification of the ‘whole person’ as the target for human and cultural development, student services beyond classroom instruction, facilities, and the people who make up our university community, all play an important role in distinguishing the American University in Dubai. Our students and graduates are testament to the success of our university model, and they are saying it loud and clear through the University of the Year award.”

Gulf Medical University, which was established in 1998 and offers undergraduate and post graduate education in various fields of medicine, was awarded ‘Outstanding Support for Students’. Commenting on the award Reghu Raj, Executive Secretary to the Admissions Department at Gulf Medical University said; “Thank you to the team at NAJAH for awarding Gulf Medical University Students’ Choice 2016 for the Outstanding Support for Students. It gives us immense pleasure to receive this prestigious award and we would like congratulate the organisers for arranging such a mighty event in Abu Dhabi.”

The remaining Student Choice Award winners were; New York University Abu Dhabi for Extracurricular Activities – Clubs & Societies and Khalifa University for Best Campus Facilities.
